Mat Muntz is a composer, bassist, bagpiper, and bandleader whose work extends from jazz improvisation through microtonality, non-Western instrumentation, and experimental performance practice. His debut album Phantom Islands was nominated for a 2024 German Jazz Prize for International Debut Album. He holds degrees in Jazz Bass Performance from Manhattan School of Music and Music Composition from UC Berkeley.
