Japanese composer, vocalist, and shamisen player based in New York City whose music blends jazz with Japanese folk traditions and classical influences. Makabe earned her Bachelor of Music in jazz performance from City College of New York and Master of Music from Aaron Copland School of Music, and performs regularly at leading jazz venues in New York, Europe, and Japan.
