Brian Andres Latin Quartet

Drummer Brian Andres leads his Latin Quartet through sophisticated Afro-Cuban jazz explorations, featuring some of the Bay Area's most accomplished Latin jazz musicians. Known for his work with the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel and his kinetic rhythmic sophistication rooted in Afro-Caribbean traditions, Andres brings together pianist Erick Peralta, a Berklee graduate who has performed with multi-Grammy winners including Alejandro Sanz and Luis Enrique; bassist Aaron Germain, who has collaborated with luminaries like Yusef Lateef, Stanley Jordan, and Randy Brecker; and saxophonist Tony Peebles, a member of the Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra who teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Expect contemporary Latin jazz that draws from salsa, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and post-fusion sensibilities. The quartet represents an evolution of Andres's acclaimed Trio Latino, which earned praise for their "powerhouse" performances and "jaw-dropping tunes" on their album Mayan Suite. Reviews noted the trio's ability to create "incessant dynamo" energy while maintaining sophisticated interplay, with Andres providing "symphonic" rhythmic conception that elevates the music to "orchestral level."

With Peebles adding saxophone colors on tenor, alto, and soprano, the quartet expands the melodic palette beyond the intimate trio format. The chemistry built from Andres's long-running collaborations with these musicians — particularly Germain and the deep Afro-Cuban traditions they've explored together — promises both technical virtuosity and the kind of musical telepathy that comes from years of shared stages.
